Apple already has a Voice Memos app, which comes in very handy for noting down those Alan Partridge-style "Idea for a program" thoughts. But now it's released a music-specific version called Music Memos for the musos among you.

Say you wake up with a particular refrain in your head. Just fire up the app and you can record any instrument in uncompressed audio.

Winningly, the app detects the rhythm of piano and acoustic guitar, and lays down some virtual drums and bass so you'll know how it'd sound done with a full arrangement. Nice.

Everything you record syncs to iCloud, and is accessible using GarageBand or Logic Pro X.

You can even share your songs with fans using an Apple Music Connect account. So you'd better start getting some fans.

Apple has also updated GarageBand, adding the virtual drummer from the Mac version. And it's been tweaked for the iPad Pro and now supports 3D Touch on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Music to our ears.

It's been a busy day for Apple. Today it announced it's opening Europe's first iOS App Development Centre in Italy, where students will be trained in developing apps for the platform. If you're interested, head to Naples.

Apple plans to open similar institutions in other countries too, so there may well be a British one. Stay tuned.
