Google has confirmed that the annual I/O conference will take place from May 18th to 20th at its Mountain View campus in California.

It’s the tenth such event and is aimed at Android developers looking to learn about the latest Google software developments.

Think of it as Google's version of Apple's WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), which is marked by the unveiling of major new versions of its iOS software, and you're there.

Google is likely to reveal plans for a string of new software products, in particular 2016’s version of its mobile operating system.

Tentatively dubbed Android N, this will be the successor to Android Marshmallow, which began its slow rollout to compatible phones late last year.

Other features set to be revealed include the Big G’s latest Virtual Reality tools and updates to its Android Wear wearables programme.

Google may also look to further address the increasingly fragmented nature of its operating system. Android remains broken up into various versions, with mobile makers unwilling or unable to update older products to the newest software.
